Vision//
Our Big Hope is of a peaceful and fair place where we live free from fear, our rights are promoted and respected, and we have our say. We want people to work with us, to help us make the best of our lives by providing enough cash (funding) and backing.
Purpose
The NIYF is a youth led organisation that lobbies, advocates, promotes and fights for the rights of young people in NI. We aim to build the confidence and awareness of all young people so that they can assert their rights.
There are 5 important areas that our work focuses on
- Working with YOU (e.g. we increase young peoples awareness about their rights so they can change things for themselves)
- Speaking up, Fighting for and Making change (e.g. we stand up for our rights in organisations like District Councils to make sure we are included in their work)
- Getting YOU involved (e.g. we go out and meet other young people from all over Northern Ireland to tell us what they think needs to change)
- Getting the message out (e.g. we provide opportunities for other young people to meet face to face with senior politicians (e.g. Gordon Brown and Brian Cowen), MLAs (e.g. Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness), and others who make decisions about us)
- Increasing resources and improving effectiveness (e.g. we work with funders to get the money we need to do our work well)
Our Values:
- Come rain or shine we are committed to:
- Young people being at the heart of all we do;
- Protecting and upholding the rights of young people;
- Listening, acting on what we hear, and being answerable to young people;
- Make sure everyone has a fair chance in what we do regardless of gender, background, ability, religion, race, sexuality and hairstyle;
- Being open and honest in all we do;
- Working with other groups that share our vision and who will help us make it happen;
- Having a safe, cool and comfortable place for young people to work in;
- Provide a first class, exciting and top of the range service!
