30th Anniversary

Northern Ireland Youth Forum is 30 this year

We have just started a planning group for our 30th anniversary events and we would like the input of anyone who has been involved with NIYF over the past 30 years. We had a meeting on Tuesday 8th September 2009 with former and current members and staff.

We decided that we should have a reception in the spring next year.

(NIYF offically started in 1979, however our first meeting didn't happen until 1980 so we're still in the 30 year anniversary window!)

The venues we are going to look into are The Long Gallery at Stormont and Belfast City Hall. We plan to put a time line of photos and major events up and and ask people to record the memories of their time at NIYF. We also plan to have a couple of speeches from former members telling us about their experiences and the impact NIYF had on their lives. Then some food and a bit of dancing.

Some interesting stories were told last night, which were reflective of the history of conflict here in NI. Members were given death threats for doing cross community work.  This is a really interesting part of our past and we would like to capture all the stories.

WHAT NEXT:

Tuesday October 20th @5.45pm - Memories of the last 30 years

NIYF has lots of old photos and newspapers cuttings from the last 30 years. We would like people to come along and bring their own photos too. We can sort through them and put some stories to the photos and names to faces. We also have a list of every executive member - we can go through this and see who has contact details for them. We need to get in contact with as many former members as possible - so we need to use all the connections we have.

Anyone is welcome to come along - we'll supply the food :).

If you can't make the night, email us the photos or write up a story for us  info@niyf.org

You can help us by:

Stories

Tell us a story about your time in NIYF, for example,

  • your favourite memory of NIYF
  • any impact NIYF had on your life
  • meeting your partner through NIYF (we heard there have been a few marriages!)

Photos

Provide some old photos of NIYF events that you attended and give us a little bit of info about why and when they were taken.

Planning

We are going to have a big celebration event at the end of the year.  We would love if you could help with the planning of this event.

Attending

We would like to invite all past and present members to attend the celebration event.  We don't have everyone's contact details, so please send them to us, so we can invite you to come along.

If you would like to get involved in anyway,
