CDU: Quality assurance in the youth sector

In November 2009 as part of Youth Month "Thinking seriously about..." the Curriculum Development Unit held a symposium on Quality Assurance in the Youth Sector.   The symposium came from discussions between the CDU and the Education and Training Inspectorate.  The symposium included people from the voluntary and statutory sector and was facilitated by an independent consultant, Tony Macaulay.

A recommendation from the symposium was that a working group be set up to develop a framework for quality assurance that could be used in a range of youth work contexts and at every level of youth sector.

In response to this we want as many people as possible to contribute.  We invite you to send any resources and or tools you have in relation to quality assurance, self evaluation and critical reflective practice.

Please send us any suggestions, samples and proposals of good quality assurance models and tools from across the youth sector and/or further afield that you believe could be applied or adapted for use across the sector. We are particularly interested in simple and user friendly models that would reflect quality assurance systems presently in use and could be used in any setting such as a one night a week voluntary youth group. Please email any relevant web links or electronic copies to Noel.Gallagher@neelb.org.uk or Leighann.McConville@neelb.org.uk.

Throughout the development process we want to provide opportunities for the sector to feedback on the various drafts of the framework as they are developed. You will be able to comment on the various drafts online at www.youthworkni.org.uk or call us on 02894482336.

You can send your information to:

The Curriculum Development Unit, Antrim Board Centre, 17 Lough Road, Antrim BT41 4DH or email them to above addresses.

You can download a letter with more information about the whole process from the CDU website.  If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact us at the above address or by phone on 028 94482336.

The full report from the symposium will be available on our website on www.youthworkni.org.uk from Friday 22nd January.  You can make comment through the website as well as through links on other youth sector websites.

Please pass this notice to your youth work colleagues.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Closing date for receipt of your information is Monday 8th February 2010

Updates on the progress of the framework will be available throughout the process through the website and other links.
