UK Youth Parliament

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) provides opportunities for young people aged 11 to 18 to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. 2010 is the UKYP's 10th anniversary and it continues to get stronger and better. Decision makers across the UK use UKYP as a mechanism to seek the views of young people.

NIYF coordinates the UKYP in Northern Ireland, looking after the allocation of 18 Members of the Youth Parliament (MYP's). The group have been in place since late April 2010, and will be in position until April 2012. The group will be working hard to seek the views of young people from around NI, and engage them in campaigning and lobbying.

Details of those involved with UKYP.

TRUSTEES

The UKYP is a majority youth led organisation, with 12 young people (under 25) on the Board. Northern Ireland has one young Trustee on the Board, elected by NIYF.

NI has also an adult (non-corporate) Board member, aiming to represent the interests of the youth work policy and practice in Northern Ireland. This position is held by a senior staff member at NIYF.

PROCEDURES GROUP MEMBERS

UKYP’s Procedures Group (PG) make the decisions that guide the development of UKYP, and agree the arrangements for each Annual Sitting. The Procedures Group is made up of two MYPs from each region and the three nations of the UK, who have been nominated by their region/nation to represent the views of their MYPs at a national level. It aims to physically meet a minimum of five times a year.
